PSD Activity Two: Describing & Naming

The Girl with a Pearl Earring

The painting depicts a woman from the shoulders to the top of the head. Her body seems to be facing away from the audience with her head turned back looking at the audience. She has blonde hair that is fashioned inside of a blue headband. In her left ear is a pearl earring. She seems to be wearing a brown coat covering a white shirt. The background is black. It is almost impossible to tell whether she is smiling or frowning. There is a shadow on the side of her face.

The feeling the audience receives is one of wonder and intrigue. The woman’s eyes pull the audiences attention. The expression on her face is difficult to decipher, which again, intrigues the audience. The background is black and she seems to be wearing a brown coat. This may mean the environment is cold.
